Returning to Azahara in 2024 - embrace self-discovery, holistic well-being, and spirituality through Hikma Medicine and Islamic psychology led by Dr. Mazen Atassi. This retreat explores the timeless tradition of Hikma Medicine by drawing from Ibn Sina’s magnum opus The Canon of Medicine as well as naturopathy, homeopathy, somatic trauma work, and Islamic spirituality. Attendees will be invited to a process of learning, inquiry, and cultivation of one’s embodied vitality. Through connection with a living tradition and the fellowship of like-minded Muslims we aim to facilitate an experience to leave a lasting impact through timeless knowledge and resources for a lifetime of continued growth.

Dr. Mazen Atassi is a Naturopathic Doctor and the Founding Director of Forward To Health, a holistic wellness clinic and educational initiative based in Chicago. Forward To Health aims to revive, practice, and teach the holistic, vitalistic tradition of Hikma Medicine.
Dr. Mazen graduated from Indiana University with a B.S. in Biology and from the National University of Health Sciences with a Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. He practices and teaches Hikma Medicine with a focus on homeopathy and somatic trauma therapy. He studied with world-renowned healer Hakim Archuletta and spent the last decade studying the traditional Islamic disciplines with scholars in the USA and abroad.
He has since joined Cambridge Muslim College as an instructor in their Islamic Psychology diploma training program.

20th September: Arrival and tour of Azahara, Jummah. First workshop session after Jummah. Welcome dinner with musical performance by Ali Keeler and the Al Firdaus Ensemble.

23rd September: Full workshop day. Creative workshop focusing on traditional Islamic art, led by AbdelKarim Cedelberg.
