Our story

Azahara stands as a sanctuary woven into the mountains of Andalusia, Spain. In 2018 (1439 AH), we established Azahara to embark on a journey into beauty. Our name comes from Sayyida Fatima Azahara, the daughter of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), whose presence, mirroring her father’s, was like a flower’s fragrance — imbued with healing, love, and light.

Located in the historical Alpujarras mountains, our story dates back to Andalusian times. Today, Azahara continues to shine, with its purpose being to deepen connection to Allah through nature, service, learning, and living in a loving community. We aspire to provide opportunities that develop individuals into their roles as stewards of the earth.

NATURE
Discover beautiful gardens, animals, poetry walkways, and our mountain water irrigation system inherited from 7th century Andalusia.

LEARNING
Azahara hosts teachers from local areas and across the world facilitating retreats and courses that connect people to a rich heritage of scholarship.

"Khidma”, loosely translated as service, stands as a pillar of community. This year we have launched the Azahara Khidma Programme to cultivate a generation empowered as stewards of the earth. Participants will engage in; practical activities and traditional learning, mindfulness grounded in Islamic Psychology, connect in nature, and more.

For the past year, we have been delivering the Azahara Volunteering Programme, welcoming and developing individuals of all ages and backgrounds. These programmes are also helping build Azahara’s understanding and practice of Khidma, so that we can better role model and develop loving community.

Breezes of the Elect presents Sacred Sounds Retreat

For the first time ever, join the Sacred Sounds Retreat by Breezes of the Elect for women over 18 from Friday June 28th - Friday 5th July. The retreat will take place in Southern Spain, at Azahara International. Dive into a 7 day journey exploring and learning classical poetry, traditional daff, qaṣā’id singing, tajwīd and poetry workshops. There will be daily gatherings of remembrance, a trip to the Al-Hambra in Granada, swimming, archery and more. We shall study classical texts with scholars, receive hands-on training on service, practice mindfulness grounded in Islamic Psychology, live in community, and enjoy moments of rest, swimming and archery in the Andalusian mountains.
